Steve DeLaney is a writer, speaker and teacher. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from George Mason University, a Masters in Theology/Theological Studies from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, and recently completed a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Lindenwood University.

Steve has worked professionally in campus ministry and as a high school teacher, on a parish level as an assistant director of evangelization, as well as a site leader for Bon Secours Volunteer Ministry. A published author, his poetry has appeared in America Magazine. His blog, some things, is at somedelaney.wordpress.com, where you can find his previous Advent and Lenten reflections. He is also fluent in Irish, English and Scottish accents1.

It is my great pleasure to welcome my friend, Steve DeLaney.

Steve gives us the lowdown on the Advent season, what it means, and how it prepares us for Christmas. He discusses his latest seasonal reflection, “I Want You To Be,” the story’s prophetic main character Doug, and understanding the “unlimited, unconditional, unending love” of God.

Other topics include coming back to church, explaining the benefits of confession, why humans need it, and tips for a 7-year-old’s first confession.

Our apologies. We failed to ask Steve to speak in the different accents. We will make sure to have him perform the next time he is on for Lent.
