Podcast: Episode 70 - The One About Leveling Up with Ray Davis

Brian's former Old Navy co-worker, Ray Davis, joins the pod to discuss his path from retail manager to owning his own successful home inspection business

Cold Open Question of the Week: Who is one of your all-time favorite co-workers, and why?

Ladies & Gentlemen, this is a very special episode of TheBrianLennonShow.

As you know, we are occasionally lucky enough to have a guest join us, and most of those times I have a pretty good sense where the direction of the conversation will go and the topics we will discuss.

This week, I had the chance to catch up and speak to my old friend and former co-worker, Ray Davis.

I met Ray in August of 1998 when I started working at Old Navy in Fairfax, Virginia. Ray is one of the most charismatic people I know, in addition to one of the funniest guys, and with a nickname like “Sunshine,” you don’t need me to tell you he lights up a room (or Women’s Shop 2 if we’re in Old Navy) when he walks in.

Over the course of 1998-1999, Ray and I, and a bunch of our co-workers from Old Navy, spent a good amount of time together away from the store, hanging out to watch professional wrestling, grabbing a bite to eat, or have a few drinks and dance at hot-spots like Bridges. More about Bridges in the podcast!

The last time I spoke with Ray, I was a manager at the Gap in Steamtown Mall in Scranton, Pa. and he was a manager at the State College, Pa. store. That was probably late 2002 or early 2003.

Since then, we’ve been able to reconnect on Facebook, and send messages throughout the years. I’ve followed Ray as he became a father to two daughters, started his own home inspection business, and moved across the country from State College to Oregon.

What I didn’t know, until this conversation you are about to hear, is Ray’s inspiring and motivational story, the ups and downs, and the dedication and hours of hard work (and speed reading) that he’s put in to, as he says, “level up.”

I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as Gary and I have, and I’m sure it will add a little “sunshine” to your day.

Enjoy!
