Reading and Homework and Spelling Tests: Brian received a Remind (it’s an app) message from Bernie’s teacher that she’s prohibited from sending home the words for that week’s spelling test. It is against school policy! What-the-what?!

Gary shares his own experience with assigning homework as a math teacher.

#NaNoWriMo: Brian shared a piece this week about his past efforts writing a novel during National Novel Writing Month. The next one kicks off November 1.

Attack on Isreal: This week Outkick.com columnist Armando Salguero wrote, “They [people inside the NFL] understand a distraction from personal issues for maybe three hours a week is harmless and probably even good for you. But a distraction that overrides attention of civic duties is a problem for all of us.”

The Right is blaming Joe Biden. The Left is blaming Donald Trump.

Brian and Gary discuss whether Americans should care, and if parents are thinking about global war and what it might mean for their children.

Jimmy Carr: English-Irish comedian Jimmy Carr appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast this week. He shared some interesting thoughts on comedy, including what if it was a subject taught in school, like music, drama, writing. Carr also studied neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and has interesting thoughts on the world, laughter, etc.

Carr asks, what if the U.S. made it its mission to end slavery throughout the world? Forget oil, the war on drugs, etc., but to end slavery as a mea culpa for America’s Original Sin. Carr says there are more slaves currently in the world than there ever was during slavery in the United States?

News of the Weird: Gary shares the latest wacky doings of folks, live from our Tampa, Florida newsroom. This week: The queen’s swans in Florida go for a physical, and a 104-year-old Chicago woman finally takes the leap.

Weekend Plans: Brian is hosting an Oktoberfest party for old and new friends. Gary is celebrating his wedding anniversary by traveling around the world — in Epcot.
