Episode 96: The One About May the Fourth

Calling all Jedis, bounty hunters and wookies, as we celebrate Star Wars Day

Cold Open Question of the Week: If you could pilot either the Millennium Falcon, an X-wing Starfighter, or Darth Vader’s Imperial-class Star Destroyer aka The Devastator, which one would it be?

Tonight we welcome Jeff Kramer aka Cosmo, Team Lead at

, a weekly Substack newsletter covering Star Wars news, reviews, deep dives, assorted weirdness and bad guy philosophy that makes Star Wars great.

A Midwest transplant who’s been living in Texas the last 20 years, Jeff is a lawyer by day and Star Wars enthusiast by night.

We catch up with Jeff to discuss what led to him starting a Substack, and in particular, one about Star Wars.

Nearing his first anniversary writing on Substack, we learn about how Jeff was introduced to the platform and what led him to start his own newsletter. We discuss “the bureaucracy of evil” that Jeff finds so interesting.

Don’t miss the special guest appearance by Taco the cat at 13:25!

We ask Jeff where his passion for Star Wars began and what’s fed it through the years, including the impact Darth Vader made on a young impressionable kid enjoying Thanksgiving at his grandparents house.

We also ask Jeff if there is someone whose never seen Star Wars or is looking to introduce themselves to Star Wars, where would he suggest is a good place to start?

He also talks about the Disney-fication of the Star Wars franchise, including Canon verses Legend. The boom in content available to fans, and the impact its had on the newest movie releases.

The Darth Jar Jar Theory

Jeff discusses and enlightens us on the Reddit-thread theory involving Jar Jar Binks (27:19), one of his favorite Star Wars themes he loves to discuss the most. He then provides us some evidence from none other than George Lucas himself.

Tell us a little about your background? Where are you from? What planet are you living on and writing from right now? What’s your writing background look like?

How much of your writing is influenced by The Force? How much by the Dark Side?

You’ve joked about it in your writing, but talk a little about spelling Star Wars words? Do you have a Star Wars reference book? Dictionary? Are there any particular names or places that evade your memory?

If there was someone who has never seen Star Wars, or you have a child and want to introduce them to Star Wars, where would you suggest would be a good place to start?
