Best Leonardo DiCaprio Movies: All 29 Films and Performances, Ranked - Thrillist

Cold Open Question of the Week: Gary, this past week on Substack’s Notes there was a viral post: Introduce your Substack with a movie still. What movie still would you use to introduce your Substack?

Welcome to the best hour of your week!

Gary’s Coming Home: Gary has booked his flight to PA in order to play in the Chris Lews Memorial Golf Tournament next month!

Service Pets in Bars: Brian was at Cheap Shots in Olyphant this past Friday when a dog walked into the bar! Gary discusses his experience with dogs in bars past 11 o’clock at night.

STATE OF MIND: Natalie Portman and Zach Braff in 2004’s Garden State. / Source: imdb

Garden State: Brian caught up with this 2004 film written, directed and starring Zach Braff (Scrubs, a show I hated) along with Natalie Portman. Brian learned about the film because The Ringer did a piece on the movie’s soundtrack. Brian and Gary then discuss being in their mid twenties and returning home.

Gary’s microphone doesn’t work…

Millenial Candidates: Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance is the first millennial, born between 1981 and 1996, to run on a presidential ticket. We discuss the role social media: Facebook, blogs, public Venmo and Twitter/X will impact future political races. Will Gen X ever have a presidential candidate?

Identity Politics: Brian wrote this week about playing the “identity” game when it comes to the ‘24 election. He thinks it short-changes candidates.

Being “Weird”: The Democrat operatives have flipped the script so completely that someone like me, a religious, conservative white man married to a woman, who believes in instrinsic values and virtues, and raises their children together under a single roof is considered “weird.” Gary makes valid counterpoints to that argument.

“Say It To My Face”: VP Harris threw down the debate gauntlet at a rally in Atlanta this week. Brian thinks it's the perfect attack on Trump.

Laura Gehrke and Joshua Stewart tie the knot.

Gary’s News of the Weird: Are these boneless? and cellmate to soulmate.

School Bullying Case: A Dunmore student’s family is suing the school district and several parents, claiming their disabled child was bullied. Brian wonders if a case like this will make schools take further steps to ban cellphones on school grounds.

Tailgators Podcast: Me, Gary and our friend, college football resident expert, John Crimella, will be launching Season 2 of the podcast in August. We’d love for you to subscribe here:
